UNLABELLED: PURPOSE/MATERIAL AND METHOD: Current adjustable suture techniques are analysed and new variants are described. RESULTS/CONCLUSION: Adjustable sutures applied to tarsal fixation of the elevator muscle and shortening-enlargement of the frontal suspension strip are presented. In the both techniques, after three to four days, the adjustment and the final fixation are performed.

Objetivo/Método: A pesar de las tablas o normogramas que se utilizan para cuantificar las maniobras quirúrgicas de la blefaroptosis no siempre se consigue el éxito funcional y estético. Por ello se describieron las técnicas con sutura ajustable. Nosotros revisamos las maniobras existentes y describimos una serie de variantes. Resultados/Conclusiones: Nuestras aportaciones incluyen la sutura ajustable de la fijación tarsal del músculo elevador o de la banda de suspensión al frontal y la técnica de acortamiento del material de suspensión a través de la incisión palpebral con posterior ajuste y fijación definitiva a los tres o cuatro días (AU)

PURPOSE: Inversing and eversing sutures may be a treatment for inferior eyelid entropion and ectropion, as single treatment or combined with other surgical technique. We propose the use of adjustable sutures for these patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 85 cases were considered. 41 of them were treated with adjustable sutures and the other 44 underwent classical sutures as treatment. RESULTS: The 100% of the eyelids treated with adjustable sutures had a successful eyelid surgery. This was observed at the end of the procedure, the fourth day after surgery, and after the sixth month. CONCLUSIONS: These adjustable sutures provide more patient comfort and a more accurate result than the classical technique at least after six months of follow up.

Objetivos: El ectropión y el entropión de párpado inferior pueden ser tratados mediante suturas inversoras y eversoras respectivamente, de una manera aislada o formando parte de una cirugía más compleja. Nosotros proponemos que estas suturas sean ajustables. Material y método: La muestra se compone de 85 casos. Hemos comparado 41 párpados tratados mediante sutura ajustable con 44 tratados por la técnica clásica. Resultados: El 100 por ciento de los casos tratados con sutura ajustable estaban perfectamente apuestos al terminar la cirugía, al cuarto día y al sexto mes. Conclusiones: Estas suturas ajustables proporcionan mayor confort y exactitud que la técnica clásica a corto y medio plazo (AU)

Objetivo/Método: Analizar nuestra experiencia con la crema de EMLA en los procedimientos sobre la piel palpebro-orbitaria. Para ello seleccionamos 40 pacientes que requerían un tratamiento bilateral y simultáneo consistente en inyección de toxina botulínica, triamcinolona, anestésicos y extirpación de lesiones cutáneas superficiales. Hemos comparado la reacción objetiva al dolor y la valoración subjetiva entre el lado en que se aplicó EMLA y el placebo. Resultados/Conclusiones: Existe menor dolor en el lado que se aplicó EMLA con una diferencia estadísticamente significativa (p<0,0001). Por tanto, el uso de la anestesia percutánea es útil para la disminución del dolor provocado por procedimientos que afectan a la piel palpebro-orbitaria (AU)

The last two cases of Ellis van Creveld syndrome diagnosed in the Neonatology Service of our department are presented and the clinical and radiological features described. One of the children, the boy, was suffering from ocular malformations which are not common in this syndrome. Both have heart malformations which are frequent in this syndrome. Paradoxically the boy, who was quite below the third percentile in height, has less alterations in the long bones than did the baby girl, who was within the normal height range. Attention is called to the lack of adipose panniculus in the boy, but the girl's weight is within the normal limits. Both died because of the heart anomalities with accompanying respiratory distress.
